ArtchDesign

A unique Art + Architecture + Design project where children learn to see the world differently through making, building and creative exploration.

What if children could learn to see the world not just as it is, but as something they can shape, imagine and redesign?

ArtchDesign is a unique hands-on creative project where children explore the worlds of art, architecture and design through making, building and observing. Across ten thoughtfully structured sessions, they are invited to slow down, look closely at the spaces around them and experiment with how shape, texture, material and colour can influence the way we experience a place.

Through spatial play, embodied exploration and model-making, children discover that design is not only about objects or buildings, it is also about ideas, emotions, problem-solving and the environments we live in every day.

ArtchDesign encourages children to slow down, look closely and connect with their surroundings through hands-on creative projects that blend art, design and architecture. Through spatial play, embodied exploration and model making, children discover how shape, texture, material and colour can create spaces and even change the way we feel inside them.

Design the World Around You

This project is perfect for children who enjoy building, imagining and creating with their hands, and for parents who want something more meaningful than “just an art club.”

Across ten sessions, children are introduced to creative processes that connect visual art, spatial design and architecture in an engaging and accessible way. They explore how spaces are formed, how materials behave, how structures can be imagined and how design can affect mood, movement and experience.

Rather than simply making finished objects, children are encouraged to think like young designers: to observe carefully, test ideas, respond to problems and shape concepts into physical forms. This makes the project both creatively stimulating and intellectually enriching.

Notice more, Create more

One of the most valuable things this project offers is a new way of looking.

Children begin to notice the details of the built and natural world more carefully, the forms of buildings, the feeling of a room, the texture of surfaces, the way colour changes atmosphere or how objects and structures occupy space. These observations then become starting points for creative exploration.

By learning to notice more, children also begin to imagine more. They discover that design is not something distant or abstract, but something they can engage with directly through materials, ideas and experimentation.

This process helps children feel more aware, more curious and more connected to the environments they move through every day.

From imagination to model

ArtchDesign invites children to transform ideas into something tangible.

Through model-making and hands-on experimentation, they explore how concepts can move from imagination into three-dimensional form. They may test shapes, construct small structures, experiment with balance and composition or respond creatively to spatial challenges.

This is where the project becomes especially rewarding. Children not only imagine possibilities, they build them. They experience the satisfaction of turning thoughts into form, learning along the way that creativity often grows through testing, adapting and refining.

The emphasis is not on perfection, but on curiosity, process and discovery.

  • Children will develop a curious and investigative mindset, learning to observe the world more deeply and creatively.

They will practise artistic and architectural “maker” skills such as model making, spatial thinking, creative and critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration.

Each session supports exploration, experimentation and learning through hands-on design challenges.

  • Most materials and tools used are child-friendly and carefully selected for safe creative use.

For older children (Years 7-8), craft knives with ceramic blades may be introduced when appropriate to support more advanced model-making skills, always with clear guidance and supervision.

  • Children will create a varied portfolio of 2D and 3D artistic-architectural pieces and models across the 10 sessions.

Each outcome is process-led and designed to celebrate creativity, experimentation and skill development, with tangible creations they can take home and feel proud of.
